Polaris and Enfield working together in India.

Polaris 4 wheeler sighted in India

by Ujjwal Dey

Polaris the maker of Slingshot and Eicher the owner of Royal Enfield just shook hands and launched a utility vehicle for the masses in India. It will be diesel engine 4-wheeler that can do everything including cooking your coffee. Yes, it fits five passengers, a lot of cargo and has a built-in power generator to light up your home.
If you thought that Elio was a true solution then you would love what Polaris is offering the Indian market. Unlike Elio, this Multix vehicle is a 4-wheeler. It definitely looks prettier than Elio, runs better fuel efficiency than Elio and yes has lot more usefulness than Elio ever will.
Polaris Slingshot is for sports crazy gearheads wanting to race the streets in a street-legal Formula One car. Enfield is focused on introducing their new parallel twin engine motorcycle. Eicher the parent company of Enfield is well known for its trucks and large utility vehicles. Multix is a hybrid child of Polaris and Eicher with the best of both worlds. It uses the tenacity of Enfield Management and manufacturing process combined with the brilliant designing and dependability of Polaris Industries.
The Eicher Polaris Multix (or Multix) is a personal utility vehicle manufactured by Eicher Motors and Polaris India (the Indian arm of Polaris Industries). The vehicle was announced in June 2015, and the first vehicle was delivered on 26 August 2015. Multix is promoted by its manufacturer as "India's first personal utility vehicle," able to be used as a people carrier, a cargo carrier and also a power generator.
Multix cargo capacity is 400 litres. It seats a family of five comfortably. Multix also generates 3 kilowatts of electricity and can thus be used as a power generator as well.

The Multix has two variants, the AX+ and the MX. With the exception of doors (and the overall weight of the vehicle), both the variants are identical. AX+ has open doorways, whilst MX has doors.
Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd plans to have dealerships throughout India by mid-2017.
Eicher of course is the epic company behind the royal success of Royal Enfield Motorcycles. Polaris is best known for reviving the fortunes of Indian Motorcycles USA and its Slingshot Trike.

Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd. (EPPL) is a 50:50 joint venture between Eicher Motors Ltd. and Polaris Industries Inc. The two companies signed a strategic joint venture agreement in July 2012. Backed by an investment of over INR 350 crore equal to US $72.0 million in 2016, EPPL combines Eicher’s proven expertise in frugal engineering, lean business model and in-depth understanding of emerging markets with the excellent product development capabilities and world class reliability of Polaris.

The company expects to sell 60,000 vehicles per year.

Mutix is much better than the concept budget trike called Elio. I don't know why Polaris only expects this to sell in developing nations like India. If Elio is getting bookings then nothing would stop Polaris Multix from being a bestseller in USA.

Siddhartha Lal, the man who brought Enfield back to life is also the Chairman for Eicher Polaris Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Mike Dougherty is Vice President, Asia Pacific and Latin America, Polaris Industries Inc. He is a Director for Eicher Polaris Pvt Ltd though based out of Minnesota, USA.
